Screening of New York Close Up in Cinematheque of the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art

Rybon with collaboration of Cinematheque of the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art and Art 21 institute presents: The Screening of New York Close Up from 13-16 July, 5 to 7 p.m. in Cinematheque of the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art. New York Close Up is Art21’s documentary film series devoted to artists in the first decade of their professional career, living and working in New York City. This innovative project provides an intimate look at the next wave of artists with artists serving as informal guides, the series captures the realities of living and working in the city, featuring: homes and studios, live performances, exhibitions, residencies, day jobs, and social scenes. Artworks by these artists advance fresh approaches to disciplines such as painting, sculpture, photography, performance, film, and video, while often blurring boundaries between art, dance, movies, music, and design. Films explore themes of collaboration, improvisation, impermanence, personal autobiography, history, and political responsibilities. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with experts in the field of cinema and visual art. On Tuesday 14th July at 6 p.m Mojtaba Mirtahmasb, Mohamad Reza Jahanpanah and Amir Hossein Sanaei will attend in the discussion and talk about media and cinema structure of the films and their personal experiments of making the documentary about visual artists. There will be another discussion in the name of ''Contemporary Art, Personal Narratives and The Political'' on Wednesday 15th July with the attendance of Pouriya Jahanshad and Hamed Jaberha. The last discussion, ''The Aesthetic of Contemporary Art'', will held on Thursday 16th July at 6 p.m. and Hamed Jaberha with Mohamad Parvizi will investigate the situation of contemporary art, its paradox and in general the contemporary arts question.
